Advocacy

With having no counsel of her own, it is very difficult to make a woman’s voice heard in criminal proceedings. Often there is valuable information that would help the prosecution that they do not know.

We can work on a woman’s behalf, and can act as her advocate, with a range of agencies in both criminal and civil law:

  • Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)
  • Courts
  • Police
  • Probation
  • Housing
  • Voluntary agencies such as refuges and counselling services
  • Solicitors

“I tried to get information myself, but no-one would talk to me. You have found out everything I wanted to know and gave the prosecutor information about his behaviour that they didn’t know.” Woman supported by HALT.
